Oral Arguments in Hawaii v. Trump

Watch the oral arguments before the Ninth Circuit in Hawaii v. Trump LIVE.  See the preview here.

The play card is as follows

Acting U.S. Solicitor Gen. Jeffrey B. Wall argued for the Trump administration.  Neal Katyal, former acting solicitor general under President Obama, represented the challengers.

The court is weighing Trump’s appeal of a March decision that put a nationwide hold on his executive order barring U.S. entry by or visas for nationals of Iran, Syria, Sudan, Libya, Somalia and Yemen for 90 days and blocking all refugees for 120 days.

The panel asked very specific questions.  Among other question, Judge Paez asked Solicitor General Wall whether the travel ban was equivalent to the executive order mandating the interment of persons of Japanese ancestry that the Supreme Court upheld in Korematsu v. United States.

Amy Howe on SCOTUSBlog recaps the argument.
