Attorney General to Review Administrative Closures
As he continues to tinker with the immigration adjudication system, Attorney General Jeff Sessions yesterday announced a review of a widely used practice of immigration judges closing cases without decisions.
In referring a case from the Board of Immigration Appeals to the Attorney General, Sessions posed a series of questions about the use of ‘‘administrative closures,’’ a common outcome that allows people to stay in the country without legal status. Click here for the questions and more details.
Administrative closures have shielded noncitizens from removal. But critics say judges too often let people stay in the country longer than they should.
