Ending the Budget Impasse: “Let’s Make a Deal?” — Congressional leaders invited to White House for meeting on border security
The Los Angeles Times reports that the Trump administration has invited top congressional leaders to a “briefing” on border security today, the first time the lawmakers have been to the White House since before a partial government shutdown began.
Border Security and the Wall “thing” and Shutdown is not where Nancy Pelosi wanted to start her tenure as Speaker! Let’s make a deal?
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 1, 2019
It is unclear whether negotiations to end the impasse could take place, though at one point in Trump’s tweets, he wrote, “Border Security and the Wall ‘thing’ and Shutdown is not where Nancy Pelosi wanted to start her tenure as Speaker! Let’s make a deal?” Democrats regain control of the House of Representatives tomorrow and have promised a quick vote to reopen the government, but their plan does not include money for a wall.
BTW, during the federal shutdown, immigration courts are not hearing cases.
Stay tuned for news on the meeting.
