Game of Chicken Ends for Now: Shutdown Ends — Temporarily
Friday saw some big news. President Trump signed a stopgap bill to reopen the government for three weeks while Republicans and Democrats negotiate over border security. It includes no money for the border wall demanded by President Trump. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi said that the State of the Union address would not be held as scheduled next Tuesday, but she would work with him to find a new date.
President Trump presented the agreement as a victory, and indicated that the cease-fire may only be temporary: If Republicans and Democrats cannot reach agreement on wall money, he said that he was ready to renew the confrontation or declare a national emergency to bypass Congress altogether.
