Global Migration Crisis by Amnon Rubinstein and Liav Orgad, Justice, No. 62 4

Abstract

Never in history has so much attention been paid to human movement. Global migration yields shifts of historical significance, profoundly shaking up world politics – as shown by the “refugee crisis,” the rise of White nationalism in the United States, and the spreading of the populist right in Europe. Global migration challenges the fabric of Western societies and the way we think of borders and boundaries.

The paper provides ten reasons why international migration has become associated with “crisis.” The ten reasons are related to fundamental transformations in the patterns of migration (number, composition, pace, outcome), in Western societies (demographic crisis, identity crisis, multiculturalism and minority rights), and in the world as a whole (geopolitics, globalization, digitalization).
