President Pulls Nominee to Head Immigration and Customs Enforcement
Day after day, President Donald Trump makes immigration news. Yesterday, he backed off his threat to close the US/Mexico border. Today, he is visiting the border.
But that is not it in immigration news. CNN reports that the President is pulling the nomination of Ron Vitiello to lead Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE), saying he wants to go in a “tougher direction.”
The move to withdraw the nomination came as a surprise to the Department of Homeland Security and members of Congress, sources familiar with the nomination told CNN.
The White House yesterday evening informed the Senate it was withdrawing its nomination of Vitiello to lead ICE, according to a letter obtained by CNN.
Trump nominated Vitiello, who’s been leading ICE in an acting capacity since late June, to head the agency in August.
