President Trump to Appoint Immigration “Czar”?
President Trump has been talking about closing the US/Mexico border. Now, CBS News reports that President Trump is considering naming an”immigration czar to oversee the implementation of his hardline immigration agenda, an administration official told CBS News.” The top contenders for such a position, according to the same official, are:
Former Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, Kobach has a long history of pro-immigration enforcement activism, including involvement in the drafting of Arizona’s SB 1070 and Alabama’s HB 56.
Former Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli. In 2010, Cuccinelli, as Virginia Attorney General, joined eight other states in filing an amicus brief opposing the federal government’s lawsuit challenging an Arizona immigration enforcement statute, SB 1070. He also issued a legal opinion authorizing law enforcement officials to investigate the immigration status of anyone that they have stopped.
Both share the president’s views on immigration.
Stay tuned. Things could get even more interesting!
