Mandatory E-Verify to be Proposed by Trump Administration?

Senior Advisor the President Trump Jared Kushner reportedly has been at work cobbling together an immigration reform proposal for the Trump administration.

Ted Hesson and Anita Kumar on Politico report that, according to three sources, the White House is considering including mandatory nationwide E-Verify in its proposal to reform the legal immigration system. It currently is not mandatory for most employers.  The current electronic system allows businesses to check the work authorization of employees. Making E-Verify mandatory is a high priority for advocates who favor tougher enforcement to discourage unlawful immigration and President Donald Trump included it in his immigration platform as a candidate in 2015.

Regulating the employment of undocumented immigrants long has been an issue in immigration reform.  See this article pp. 329-82 for a summary of the issues.
