Law Schools See ‘Trump Effect,’ With More Students Studying Immigration Law

WBUR reports on a phenomenon that many students of law schools had been talking about.  Law school professors and administrators say that there has been a rise in the number of students studying immigration law in response to President Trump’s aggressive stance on immigration enforcement.

A 2017 poll from Gallup and the Association of American Law Schools asked about student motivations for entering law school. James Greif, communications director for the association, said social justice was a clear trend in survey responses.  “Public-spirited and civic-minded motivations led the list of reasons, and these are the students that are applying to law school today,” he said. “Increased interest in pursuing a career in immigration law seems to be part of this overall trend.”
