U.S. Government Affords Amish Canadian LPR Status Without a Photo
The Associated Press reports that an Amish couple settled a lawsuit that claimed that U.S. government officials of violating their constitutional rights by insisting they provide photographs of themselves before the Canadian wife’s request to become a permanent U.S. resident would be approved.
The couple sued last year in U.S. District Court alleging that the couple would not allow themselves to be photographed because of the Old Order Amish belief that photographs of people are “graven images” prohibited by the Bible’s Second Commandment.
The Indianapolis Star reported hat the settlement allows the woman to become a lawful permanent resident without submitting photos.
