Immigration crisis in the list of “what scares you most” for NYT Kids Section

For immigration scholars with an interest in kids’ views of the world, a halloween-themed story in today’s NYT for Kids section caught my eye. Silas Silverman-Stoloff,  age 15, describes his reactions to the daily news as a series of “nightmares.” The thought that haunts him most is being: “ripped away fom my parents – something that happens to thousands of chidlren around the world every day. No movie nonster has ever kept me up at night. But current eents certainly do.” When he polls his friends about what scares them most, the immigration crisis is up there with climate change and mass shootings. Sobering.
