Federal judge in Oregon temporarily bars President Trump from restricting visas for immigrants without health insurance
The Wall Street Journal reports that a federal court yesterday blocked the Trump administration from implementing a policy that would require new immigrants to demonstrate they have health care or are able to afford it. The order was issued by U.S. District Judge Michael Simon in Oregon. It temporarily bars the administration from applying the new policy for 28 days. Another hearing is scheduled for Nov. 22.
The new health-care requirement was slated to take effect Monday. When it issued the new policy last month, the White House said it was taking the step to safeguard the health-care system for Americans by preventing immigrants from enrolling in Medicaid or going to emergency rooms with no insurance.
