Nidhi Prakash for BuzzFeed News reports that United We Dream Action, a group led by DACA recipients, is calling for presidential candidate Joe Biden to commit to a moratorium on deportations and more substantial reforms to the immigration system. United We Dream Action and other groups have called for Biden to acknowledge and apologize for the deportations that occurred when he was vice president under President Obama.
United We Dream Action protested former vice president Biden over his approach to immigration ahead of the first Democratic debate of 2020. “He does not have any idea of the pain they caused kids, families, parents who were separated from their kids. The pain is irreparable pain,” said Elsa Osorio, 45, whose husband was arrested by ICE agents after a routine traffic stop and deported to Mexico by the Obama administration in 2011.
Immigration was not a topic that came up in the Democratic presidential debate last night in Iowa.
