Operation Palladium: ICE Enforcement in Sanctuary Cities

Screen Shot 2020-03-05 at 6.10.33 PM

The NYT reports that ICE is stepping up enforcement operations in sanctuary cities. The effort is called Operation Palladium.

So, just what cities are being targeted? Those that aren’t actively helping with immigration enforcement efforts. The NYT lists Boston, New York, Detroit, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Atlanta, New Orleans and Newark as among that crowd.

What can those cities expect? An effort to “Arrest as many undocumented immigrants as possible.”

As it turns out, finding and apprehending undocumented immigrants is no simple task when (a) these cities are not cooperating with ICE — neither providing information about where immigrants live nor helping with any apprehension efforts; and (b) immigrants are getting smarter about not opening doors to immigration agents who lack any authority to enter homes any other way — they can’t just knock down a door without a warrant.

So, mainly, ICE is surveilling folks. And trying to arrest them between their homes and work.

Operation Palladium truly is OP as the kids would say. ICE has roped even its “elite tactical BORTAC agents” into the mission, aiming to “flood the streets” of sanctuary jurisdictions with ICE agents.
