Citizenship backlog exacerbated by USCIS closures amid covid-19 response
As I’ve written about in the media and elsewhere, citizenship applications have been significantly delayed in many parts of the country. The wait times have only increased with USCIS closures amid the covid-19 response delaying the administration of the citizenship oath. In all likelihood, eligible green card holders will be unable to vote in the 2020 Presidential election.
For policy reports on the potential electoral influence of newly-naturalized voters see research by NPNA and the USC Center for the Study of Immigrant Integration.
