Happy Easter! Hope that, in these amazing times, everyone is doing well.
As it turns out, immigrants helped created many Easter traditions in the United States: “Although we can trace the roots of many Easter traditions back thousands of years, we can thank immigrants for introducing them to the American public. The integration of immigrant traditions into U.S. society played a major role in shaping our modern Easter celebrations.”
Here are some examples of immigrant contributions to American Easter traditions.
The delicious Easter marshmallow candy Peeps (which is very popular in my household) is produced by Just Born, a manufacturer founded by Russian immigrant Sam Born (1891-1959).
And, “how did the Easter Bunny begin delivering eggs on American shores? According to History.com, the theory with the most evidence is that the floppy-eared bearer of candy came over with German immigrants.” Times (Feb. 21, 2020).
