Fighting the Law? Trump Administration Rejects New DACA Applications

I previously posted about the position of the Center for American Progress’s argument that, in light of the Supreme Court ruling, the U.S. government must again be accepting new applications for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals relief.  But, according to Inside Higher Ed,

“The Trump administration is refusing to process new applications for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program despite a Supreme Court ruling that required reinstatement of the program, the Los Angeles Times reported . . . .

Legal experts say the Supreme Court’s ruling compels the administration to begin accepting new applications for the DACA program, which provides protections from deportation for certain young immigrants who were brought to the U.S. as children. But immigration lawyers says U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services is rejecting new applications or confirming receipt of the applications and not acting on them. USCIS did not respond to the paper’s request for comment.”

UPDATE (July 16, 1:45 p.m. PST):  A federal district court today ordered the Trump administration to accept new DACA applications.  It ruled that “The rescission of the DACA policy is VACATED, and the policy is restored to its pre-September 5, 2017 status . . . . “
