Coming Wednesday: New EU Asylum and Migration Proposal

On Wednesday, the European Union will unveil a new asylum and migration proposal. Home affairs commissioner Ylva Johansson has told reporters that “no one will be satisfied” with it.

Color me intrigued. Sounds like the EU has some actual compromising going on across the political spectrum. Interested to see what that will yield.

As the EU Observer reports:

One of the key issues that has divided member states is the relocation of refugees if one country is overburdened in a crisis.

“It’s very obvious that voluntary solidarity is not enough, it has to be a mandatory solidarity mechanism,” [Johansson] said.

Johansson is looking for something more than “just sending some blankets.”
