John Oliver Casts His First Vote As A U.S. Citizen: “I Nearly Burst Into Tears”
Recently, comic John Oliver questioned the Trump administration’s changes to the asylum system. He in the past has discussed legal immigration and the GOP.
On the Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Oliver cast aside his usual comic cynicism to describe his first time voting in a U.S. presidential election.
“Scanning it into the machine and the machine saying, ‘Your vote has been counted,’ I nearly burst into tears,” he said. “That is the truth. My eyes got misty and I thought, ‘I don’t know if I can cry in a voting station.’”
Oliver was born in the U.K. and became a U.S. citizen last year.
