Horrifying Update To Post About Mass Murder of Migrants at Border: Police Were Involved

I blogged yesterday about the brutal murder of 19 migrants near the U.S.-Mexico border. They were shot and their bodies burned.

Today, the Washington Post has a horrifying update: At least 12 members of the Mexican state police participated in the massacre. The accusations of police involvement come from the attorney general for the Mexican state of Tamaulipas, who communicated the findings of an investigation last night. The officers have been arrested and charged with murder.

WaPo writes: “It remains unclear why the police would kill the migrants,” but at the same time, the paper lays oblique blame at the feet of the U.S. government:

At the Trump administration’s behest, Mexico mobilized its army and police to deter migration, despite objections from human rights groups. The police’s participation in last month’s massacre will force Biden to reckon with the risks of continuing that policy.
