Senator Alex Padilla Named Chair of U.S. Senate Immigration Subcommittee

Yesterday, Kat Schuster for Patch reports that U.S. Senator Alex Padilla (D-CA)  was named chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee’s Immigration Subcommittee. The son of immigrants from Mexico, he is the first Latino to hold the seat.  Schuster reports that Senator Padilla “said he plans to restore humanity, dignity and respect to the immigration process, according to his statement.”

The subcommittee has jurisdiction over citizenship, border safety, refugee laws and oversight of immigration functions in the the Department of Homeland Security, Citizenship and Immigration Services, Customs and Border Protection, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
