NPR — ‘The Border Is Not Open’: Biden Administration Seeks Foreign Aid To Slow Migration
This NPR report looks at the Biden administration’s attempt to deal with what some claim is a “crisis” at the US/Mexico border while simultaneously addressing the deep problems in Central America that are causing people to come t to the U.S. According to border patrol officials, there has been a nearly 30% increase in border crossings in the last month. The number of unaccompanied children stopped at the border has reportedly tripled.
Ambassador Roberta Jacobson announced a new effort to slow down illegal migration and develop new legal paths to come to the United States. She stated bluntly that “the border is not open.”
According to Quint Forgey for Politico, Ambassador Jacobson is a special assistant to the president who previously served as the U.S. envoy to Mexico.
