The American Dream and Promise Act of 2021

A new bill, the American Dream and Promise Act of 2021, would create a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrant youth often known as “Dreamers.” It would also create a pathway for individuals with Temporary Protected Status (TPS).  The Act was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives on March 3, 2021 and, according to analysis by the Migration Policy Institute, “could make a maximum of 4,438,000 DREAMers, individuals eligible for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) or Deferred Enforced Departure (DED), and legal DREAMers eligible for permanent residence.” For more details on the specifics contained in the Act, AILA has prepared a helpful fact sheet

Today the Biden Administration issued a statement of administration policy underscoring its firm support for the pending legislation. It describes the Act as “a critical milestone toward much-needed relief for the millions of undocumented individuals who call the United States home.”
