WaPo’s Takedown of Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-NC) Reveals Shocking Immigration Comments

On Sunday, WaPo published a serious takedown of Representative Madison Cawthorn (R-NC). The story focuses on the falsehoods perpetrated by Cawthorn about his own personal history, namely, whether he was abandoned by a friend when he was paralyzed in a fiery car crash (the friend says no, he pulled Cawthorn from the car) and whether he would’ve gone to the Naval Academy had the accident not happened (Cawthorn admits he was denied admission before the accident).

Falsehoods aside, the paper does not make Cawthorn look great — reporting that he has only attended a whopping single semester of college, earning mostly Ds as well as a reputation for sexual misconduct.

But it’s Cawthorn’s nutball comments about the U.S. border that might be of interest to immprofs. When Cawthorn traveled to the border in late July, as part of his campaign, he:

“echo[ed] the views of a radicalized, far-right ideology, alleg[ing] that there was ‘a large group of cartels, kidnapping our American children and then taking them to sell them on a slave market, a sex slave market.’ He said that ‘tens of thousands of our children’ were taken in what he called ‘one of the greatest atrocities I can imagine,’ blaming the media for failing to focus on the matter.”

Scuze me?

That is a boatload of crazy that I was entirely unaware was out there floating in the ether.

Sigh.
