President Biden’s program for migrant children doesn’t go far enough
Last week, I blogged about President Biden’s revival of the Central America Minors Program, which had been created by President Obama and terminated by President Trump. President Obama established the program in 2014 to provide in-country immigration processing for children in El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras. It was considered to be a safe, legal, and orderly alternative to minors making the dangerous journey to the United States to apply for relief.
Nolan Rappaport for the Hill looks critically at the Biden incarnation of the CAM program: “I don’t understand why he didn’t make it available to all Northern Triangle children who have a persecution claim. He didn’t have to limit the program to children who have parents or guardians in the United States.”
