ACLU Files First Immigration Lawsuit Against Biden Administration

BREAKING: We’re suing the Biden administration to immediately stop the long-distance transfer of people detained by ICE from the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark, NJ.

This is the first lawsuit over an immigration policy we’ve filed during the Biden administration.

As reported by Julia Mamin for Newsweek, the first-ever lawsuit against President Joe Biden‘s administration by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) was filed yesterday over long-distance transportation of detained migrants by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).  The lawsuit was brought on behalf of ICE detainees facing transfer to facilities across the U.S. from the Essex County Correctional Facility (ECCF) in Newark, New Jersey, amid its closing. It was filed alongside ACLU-NJ and the National Immigration Project of the National Lawyers Guild.
