Immigrant of the Day: Lameck Humble Lukanga (Uganda)

Lameck Humble Lukanga was born in Uganda and grew up amid poverty, famine, and war. He came to the United States as a child, his parents having received political asylum in the United States. The family settled in Denver. After receiving an MBA from the University of New Mexico, Lukanga became a financial advisor. His company, LifeLine Financial Group, is committed to helping Black athletes achieve “generational freedom.” That means, at least in part, helping to educate his clients about money management.
Lukanga came to my attention via a recent, wonderful write-up in the Washington Post. But digging a little further, I found a range of fascinating stories about Lukanga. This Hollywood Reporter piece discusses his representation of Issa Rae (of Insecure fame) and his haranguing an athlete for needlessly throwing money away on an Applebee’s meal. Or check out this New York Times article about how Lukanga discovered that Laker’s player Lonzo Ball was missing $1.5 million!
Immigrant of the day indeed. In a nod to Ming’s post earlier today about RGB’s naturalization speech, this nation is so very lucky that you chose to make the United States your home.
