Democratic Senators Lambaste Biden Haitian Policies

Senators. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., were among those who joined Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Bob Menendez, D-N.J., in a letter to Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas and Secretary of State Antony Blinken condemning the rapid removal of Haitian migrants from the United States.  Here is the letter.

The group of 16 senators joined a critics of the administration’s handling of Haitian migrants at the southern border, including former U.S. Special Envoy to Haiti Daniel L. Foote, a career foreign service member who resigned in September, citing the Biden administration’s “inhumane” and “counterproductive” deportation of Haitians.

Senior U.S. Department of State official Harold Koh also resigned, “sending a scathing internal memo condemning the Biden administration’s continued use of an `illegal’ Trump-era public health authority to rapidly expel migrants in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.”
