GEO Responds to Adverse Wage Ruling By Suspending Detainee Work
Seattle’s CBS station KIMA has an update on the fallout from last week’s ruling against GEO Group demanding the for-profit prison corporation pay migrant detainee workers minimum wage.
What’s been GEO’s response? They’ve suspended all detainee work at the Northwest ICE Processing Center while the company appeals.
So who’s doing the work? Ah, well, maybe no one. KIMA notes: “[D]etainees and activists who monitor the facility south of Seattle told the AP that much of the sanitation work they used to perform is no longer being done regularly.”
In the words of one detainee: “It got really gross… The guards were saying it wasn’t their job to clean….”
