Law Professor Amy Wax: “I think the United States is better off with fewer Asians and less Asian immigration.”
Although immigration is not the focus of her scholarly expertise, Professor Amy Wax has expressed some controversial, if not downright racist, views on immigration. In this interview on the Glenn Show, she said that
“[A]s long as most Asians support Democrats and help to advance their positions, I think the United States is better off with fewer Asians and less Asian immigration. There needs to be more focus on people who are already here, and especially the core (and neglected) `legacy’ population, and a push to return to traditional concepts and institutions and Charles Murray’s `American Creed.’”
University of Pennsylvania Law Dean Theodore Ruger issued a response. He states that
“Once again, Amy Wax has, through her thoroughly anti-intellectual and racist comments denigrating Asian immigrants, underscored a fundamental tension around harmful speech at American universities. Like all racist generalizations, Wax’s recent comments inflict harm by perpetuating stereotypes and placing differential burdens on Asian students, faculty, and staff to carry the weight of this vitriol and bias.”
