UK’s High Potential Individual Visa Is One The U.S. Should Envy
The United Kingdom has announced a new visa option: The High Potential Individual visa for recent (w/in 5 years) graduates from top non-UK universities, the BBC reports. Nuts and bolts:
- Citizenship is irrelevant.
- English language skills required (“fluency to communicate without effort with native speakers”)
- No job offer needed
- 2 year work visa for BA or MA holders; 3 if holding a PhD
- Eligible for other long-term employment visas
- Security/background checks required
- Families allowed (with sufficient funds)
- No numerical cap

One that “appeared in the top 50 of at least two of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, the Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings or The Academic Ranking of World Universities, in the year in which they graduated.” USA-eligible universities for 2021 are:
