10th Anniversary of DACA
As we posted on the blog yesterday, June 15, 2022 is the 10th year anniversary of the announcement of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy by President Barack Obama.
There has been a flurry of news coverage featuring so-called “Dreamers” and their current lives, kept in limbo by the failure to pass immigration reform. This New York Times article by Miriam Jordan does an excellent job of featuring some of the undocumented young people who are graduating from high school and attending college this year. While this thoughtful editorial by Jean Guerrero of the LA Times Opinion column reviews the long history of the fight for lawful status for Dreamers, going back to the first Dream Act which was introduced in 2001. Guerrero urges President Biden to “elevate the stories” of young Dreamers to highlight the urgency and value in taking action now.
