Chili Pepper Shortage Halts Production of Sriracha

It may be a time of shortages, with the baby formula shortage getting much attention.  A new shortage is on the horizon,

A previous Immigrant of the Day, David Tran from Vietnam established an extremely successful company, Huy Fong Foods, Inc., which produces a popular spicy sauce that is a regular part of the diets of many Americans.   Unfortunately, bottles of the Sriracha hot sauce may be hard to find on store shelves this summer. Huy Fong Inc. said that it would suspend sales of its famous spicy sauce over the summer due to a shortage of chili peppers. According to AP, “[t]he company sources its peppers from various farms in California, New Mexico and Mexico, and said that weather conditions are affecting the quality of the peppers and deepening the chili pepper shortage.”
