Stephen Bannon Surrenders to Authorities in New York on Charges Related to “We Build the Wall”

Yesterday we reported on the blog that Stephen Bannon was expected to surrender, and this morning he did. A video of his surrender on the Washington Post shows Bannon appearing in court, surrounded by protestors and press.

The indictment is sealed and has not yet been released to the public. But, the case is widely thought to relate to fraud associated with his “We Build the Wall” campaign to raise money to build a border wall. Although Bannon was pardoned by President Trump, a 2019 New York state law allows state charges in such a situation where someone receives a presidential pardon but is prosecuted at the state level for the offense. The case will be watched closely by legal experts and reported on our blog.
