Law Student Fights for DACA
Jules Struck of Syracuse.com reports the story of DACA recipient Marisol Estrada Cruz, a student at Syracuse University School of Law. “My whole life, I worked hard. And there is no [legal] pathway for me at all. It just doesn’t exist.” According to the story, “Estrada Cruz got into law partly because she knows the immigration system is so complex and wants to help undocumented people like herself understand it better.”
As an undergraduate at what is now Georgia Southern Estrada Cruz helped found the Savannah Undocumented Youth Alliance, and for the first time, met other DACA recipients.
The group spent a lot of time advocating for immigrant protections in Georgia and nationally.
A congressional aide told Estrada Cruz while she lobbied in Washington that “You all are being used as a bargaining chip.”
I, for one, am rooting for Marisol.
