Border Republican accuses GOP colleagues of using “crisis” for their political advantage
News from Texas: “U.S. Rep. Tony Gonzales said in an interview with the Washington Examiner that his fellow Republicans benefit politically from a sustained border crisis. “
Anyone who thinks a 3 page anti-immigration bill with 0% chance of getting signed into law is going to solve the border crisis should be buying beach front property in AZ.

Congressmember Gonzales has been an ally of a bipartisan group of senators urging the House to couple border security legislation with immigration reform. “U.S. Sens. Kyrsten Sinema, I-Arizona, and Thom Tillis, R-North Carolina, created an outline to do so late last year, consulting with border members including Gonzales and Rep. Henry Cuellar, D-Laredo. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, helped Sinema lead the Senate group to the Texas and Arizona borders last month.”
According to Rep. Gonzales’s website,
“Border security is national security. With 800 miles of U.S.-Mexico border, Texas’s 23rd district has the largest stretch of the border territory of any Congressional District. Any decisions made regarding immigration and border security directly impact our communities. Because of that, border security and immigration are always at the forefront of Congressman Gonzales’ mind.
He believes open borders are not an option but completely closed borders are not either. It’s important we have a safe, fair legal immigration process while keeping our communities safe. Anyone who wants to come to America and live the American dream should have a chance to do so – but they must do it legally.” (bold added).
Congressman Gonzales has introduced border security legislation : January 10, 2023, Press Release: “Congressman Tony Gonzales (TX-23) on Monday introduced the Security First Act.
