EU Movement on Migration Reforms

Flag

This week, European Union lawmakers made progress towards a new migration policy, Politico reports. The goal is to “speed up the return of migrants who entered Europe without permission and to prevent these migrants from traveling to other countries within the EU.”

As a matter of procedure, what happened was this: a sufficient number of members of the the EU Parliament voted in favor of new migration measures. Next up is “negotiations with the Council… expected to begin after EU justice and home affairs ministers settle on a common position during their meeting on June 8 and 9.”
