Immigrant of the Day: Yemi Mobolade (Nigeria), Mayor-Elect Colorado Springs
News from Colorado: Yemi Mobolade, a Nigerian immigrant (and naturalized U.S. citizen) and businessman with no political experience, will be the first elected Black mayor of Colorado Springs after he won a runoff last night. Mobolade had received 57% of the vote as of 7:15 p.m. Tuesday. hers, a former federal prosecutor and Colorado attorney general who was term-limited, to become the city’s 42nd mayor.
Mobolade’s campaign website states that:
“Yemi moved to Colorado Springs in 2010, where he started a family, built three small businesses, launched a church, and became a public servant and community leader. Yemi is a West African immigrant, a US citizen, a political independent, and the unifying leader Colorado Springs needs in these uncertain times.”
A tip of the hat to Dan Kowalski.
