Happy Birthday DACA!

On June 15, 2012, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano announced the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy, which provided limited relief to undocumented young people brought to the United States as children.  Over the eleven years since its creation by the Obama administration,  DACA has fxperienced many twists and turns, with the Supreme Court in 2020 finding that President Trump’s attempt to rescind the policy was unlawful

DACA has provided benefits to hundreds of thousands of young undocumented immigrants.   Its future continues to be the subject of litigation and uncertainty

 

A new FWD.us report released ahead of DACA’s 11th birthday shows how the policy has helped recipients build lives in the United States, graduate from school, grow their careers, and establish themselves as active members of their communities.
