Florida Braces For a Hurricane? No, the State Braces for Labor Consequences of Tough Immigration Law

A tough immigration law backed by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis goes into effect on July 1. Employers in the restaurant, tourist, and construction industries are worried that the new law will make a tight labor market become even tighter. See here, here here. Among other things, the Florida law requires employers to use the federal E-Verify database to ensure that employees are legally authorized to work. Some Republican leaders have attempted to calm concerns with the new law on employers.
