Immigrant of the Day: Agnieszka Fryszman (Poland)

WaPo today has a wonderful profile of human rights attorney Agnieszka Fryszman.

Fryszman came to the U.S. with her parents as a child; they were political refugees fleeing Poland’s communist regime. She learned English from cartoons. And she became a ferocious reader. She attended Brown undergrad and Georgetown Law School.

Today, Fryszman is a partner with the law form Cohen Milstein. She is the chair of their Human Rights practice, representing “individuals who have been victims of torture, human trafficking, forced and slave labor and other violations of international law.”

The WaPo piece goes into detail about some of her more dramatic cases–including a recent victory against Exxon Mobile for hiring security forces in Indonesia that committed horrific acts of torture.

Another amazing immigrant we as a country are so lucky to call our own.
