Earlier this year, the Republican-controlled Texas House of Representatives impeached Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton on charges of breaking the law, abusing his office, accepting bribes and obstructing justice.

Paxton was a firm opponent of the Biden administration’s immigration policies.  Lauren Villagran for the El Paso Times reports that

“Paxton . . . spent the past eight years suing consecutive presidents — including the Obama, Trump and Biden administrations — over a range of border and immigration programs, leading a modern wave of conservative states trying to use the courts to dictate the nation’s immigration policies.

The current president was a special target: Paxton filed more than 20 lawsuits against the Biden administration, including many targeting the administration’s immigration policies, according to a Texas Tribune count.”
