July 30: World Day Against Trafficking in Persons
July 30 is the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons. Under the theme “Reach every victim of trafficking” the International Organization for Migration (IOM) seeks to raise awareness about developments and trends and will call on governments, law enforcement, public services, and civil society to assess and enhance efforts to strengthen prevention, identify and support victims and survivors, and end impunity.
According to the IOM, the widening socioeconomic inequalities and displacement have heightened the risks and vulnerability of millions of people on the move. The IOM through partnership with stakeholders including UN Agencies, private sector, and academia among others, has developed data and research to inform policy development, and to promote greater efficiency and impact in the fight against trafficking in persons.
