SFUSD Victory on Noncitizen Voting
Despite its long history, noncitizen voting has been under attack in many cities over the last few years. A prominent example is the Lacy v. SF lawsuit challenging the practice of immigrant parents being allowed to vote in SF Unified School District board elections. This week the California Court of Appeals overturned the lower court decision that had stalled it.
Kudos to Ron Hayduk and Chinese for Affirmative Action for their tireless community organizing and public engagement on behalf of noncitizens. ImmigrationProf Prof. Hiroshi Motomura and Prof. Jennifer Chacon supported the effort with an amicus brief.
The opinion is here.
