GAO: Actions Needed to Address Cultural and Natural Resource Impacts from Border Wall Construction

The U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) said in a report that between 2017 and 2021, while constructing about 450 miles of barriers along the Southwest border, federal agencies waived federal environmental laws, among others, in order to expedite construction. As a result, the barriers built impacted cultural resources, water sources and endangered species, as well as caused erosion, according to federal officials and tribes, the GAO said.  Read more on the report here.
