LA Times Article on Department of State, et al., Petitioners v. Sandra Munoz, et al.

Andrea Castillo of the Los Angeles Times published an excellent article this week highlighting the pending cert petition in Department of State, et al., Petitioners v. Sandra Munoz, et al.

The case involves a challenge brought by a civil rights attorney in Los Angeles, Sandra Muñoz, when her husband was denied a visa in part due to his tattoos. She won her challenge before the Ninth Circuit, but the Biden administration has now petitioned the US Supreme Court to review the case. As Castillo explains, the Ninth Circuit’s decision “agreed that the federal government had violated Muñoz’s fundamental right to marriage and due process as a U.S. citizen by denying her husband’s visa without providing an explanation for three years.”

Stay tuned on the status of the case on the Supreme Court’s docket.
