Liberal Democratic Senator Rethinking Migrant “Crisis”?
Republican political leaders have expressed concern with numbers of migrants. Some Democrats have begun to join them. Now, Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) looks like he may be one of them. What is odd about this development is that his campaign for Senate highlighted that his wife “Gisele Barreto Fetterman . . . is a trailblazer in her own right. Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Gisele’s mother took her and her younger brother to the United States when she was seven, all of them undocumented immigrants. They lived in a one-room apartment in New York City and were teaching themselves English while her mother worked cleaning hotels and houses. After 15 years of living in the shadows, Gisele received her green card in 2004 and became a United States citizen in 2009.” (bold added).
Last week, Senator Fetterman told CNN that immigrants attempting to enter the country are blocking legal migrants from their “American dream.” Fetterman claimed that the wave is making our immigration system “difficult.” Though emphasizing that he is a huge proponent of legal migration, he demanded a “secure border” and questioned why his progressive critics have a problem with that.
