Vera Institute of Justice Report on Electronic Monitoring

The Vera Institute of Justice today published on the use of electronic monitoring (ex: GPS, ankle monitors) over the past 15 years

The data shows a massive increase of the use of electronic monitoring in the immigration system.

Between 2021 and 2022,  ICE more than tripled the number of adults placed on EM, reaching a total of 360,000 people.

This is extra relevant at this moment, when one of the rumored proposals included in the border deal is to expand a program called Family Expedited Removal management, or FERM, which relies on “intense and continuous” GPS surveillance, according to the ACLU
