Central American Workers Presumed Dead in Key Bridge Collapse
The Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse in Baltimore has dominated the last 24 hours news cycle. Newsweek reports that the crew of construction workers who were on the bridge when it collapsed were immigrants from Central America, and described as “hard-working, humble men.”
In a statement, the Maryland Transportation Authority confirmed what the construction crew had been doing on the bridge. It had been working an overnight shift on the bridge. The missing men, who are now presumed dead, were immigrants from El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Mexico. The missing men were all in their 30s and 40s, with spouses and children at home, and came to Baltimore for a better life.
Showing once again that it is an election year, a Fox News host quickly — and inexplicably — linked the bridge collapse to U.S. immigration policy, a statement that was instantly criticized.
