Oral Argument in Challenge to Texas Senate Bill 4 Scheduled for April 3, 2024
As we posted last week on the Blog, SB 4 is currently on hold after the Fifth Circuit acted last week. If allowed to go into effect, the law would allow local law enforcement officers to enforce immigration law, Texas judges to order people deported, and criminal courts to punish persons for crossing the border without inspection. Here is a copy of the bill.
Next week, on April 3, 2024, the Fifth Circuit will hold oral argument on the appeal of the injunction, in New Orleans. For more information on where the case stands right now, this New York Times article provides an excellent overview.
